Letter from PAC Chair
Dear Parents of Prince of Wales Secondary School:
Welcome to all returning parents and a special welcome to our new parents of Gr. 8 students!! It is with great pleasure that we also welcome our new Principal, David Deprak. We are looking forward to a great school year!
Who we are?
All parents of children who attend PW are welcome to be part of the Executive of the Parent Advisory Committee. (PAC)
Why we need you?
The outstanding academic achievements of our students are in large part, due to strong parental involvement by PW families over the years. Membership in the PAC is currently low after many families moved on to colleges and universities.
What we do?
We work with and provide support to the Principal, administration staff and teachers in delivering the best learning outcomes possible for our children and to prepare them in making life choices for the next step after high school. We also maintain a website where parents can share information, experiences and resources.
What you can do?
You can be involved as much or as little as you want: be part of the Executive Council, attend PAC meetings, get involved with fundraising, organize special events or share your experience, raise questions, join discussion on the website or new Facebook Page.
Meetings are held bi-monthly from September to June; the specific date of each meeting can be found on our website. www.pwpac.ca New members are welcome to join at any time! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PAC Chair, Linda Fong (email@example.com) More information including minutes from previous meetings, can be found on our website: www.pwpac.ca
We look forward to meeting all of you on Monday, September 21, 2016 at PW at 7pm in rooms 205 and 207.
PAC Meeting Info
Please attend our PAC Meetings held every 1-2 months on the second floor of Prince of Wales Secondary. Our new Principal, our vice-principals and a variety of speakers will be attending. Every parent is automatically a member of the PAC, and is welcome to get involved.
We do have a small executive that helps plan. On this small committee we could still use a secretary. Our very first meeting of the year is held September 21st – next Monday. We look forward to seeing you there. All PAC meetings start precisely at 7 pm and finish at 9 pm.
Other meeting dates are:
Monday, Nov. 16, 2015
Monday, Jan. 18, 2016
Spring Break – March
Monday, April 4, 2016
Monday, May 16 – AGM
Monday, June 20 – PAC Year End & Social (tentative) Please put these in your calendar and make it a priority to attend!
We also look forward to any parents who would like to join the Finance Committee.
(PACs) are the official voices for parents at the school level. If you have a child in a B.C. public school, you are automatically a member of the school’s PAC.
If you do want to participate, simply attend PAC Meetings (held every 2 months throughout the school year), volunteer for events (list available on PAC Website) or join the Executive (meetings held monthly and when necessary). At this point, the PAC is still looking for a secretary, for example. Duties would include keeping a record and filing minutes of all meetings, issuing and receiving correspondence on behalf of the PAC etc.
Another way to get involved is through your School Planning Council. This is an advisory body, in place at each school, that works with the school community (parents, students, educators, service providers, etc.) to develop a School Plan, designed to improve students’ success. School planning councils also consult with their local boards of education on issues such as staffing, resources and programs and services provided to the school
At the school-district level, parents have a voice in the system through District Parent Advisory Councils, and through the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils at the provincial level.
Thank you for reading this far! If you are a parent of a child who graduated last year, please unsubscribe and you will be taken off the list. If you know of any Grade 8 parents who are not on this list yet, please let them know about it. I will have a link on the website where people can sign up.
