Please peruse the attached document for full information on the PW School Lockdown Protocol. It is important that mobile phones are not used during a School Lockdown event (drill or otherwise) as their use may interfere with Police efforts in attending to the situation.
School lockdown protocols
Please become familiar with the following procedures should you see an intruder(s) in the school building or should you hear the intruder alert code announced on the P.A. system.
1. THAT IS THE PROTOCOL FOR GUESTS AND VISITORS IN THE SCHOOL
All guests and visitors must immediately report to the office to obtain permission
to travel within the building. When permission is granted, each guest or visitor will
receive a yellow VSB “visitor” badge. The office staff will record their names and
collect the badges after they have finished their business at the school. All VSB
2. THAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU NOTICE AN INTRUDER IN THE BUILDING
First and foremost be conscious of your own personal safety and the safety of
administrator as to the whereabouts of the intruder(s). If you feel it would be
safe for you to approach the individual(s), inform them of the protocol for guests
and visitors to the school and direct them to the office. Take a mental note of the
visitors’ physical description and clothing.
3.THAT ARE THE CODES FOR AN INTRUDER ALERT
Code Red – Full Lockdown
If the intruder is inside the school, notify the office, who will then announce: CODE
RED, CODE RED – FULL LOCK DOWN. SECURE YOUR ROOMS. THIS IS A FULL LOCK
Code Yellow – Partial Lockdown
If the intruder is on the grounds, notify the office, who will then announce: CODE
YELLOW, CODE YELLOW. THE OUTSIDE DOORS OF THE SCHOOL ARE LOCKED. NO
ONE MAY EXIT OR ENTER THE SCHOOL. CODE YELLOW.
Code Green – All Clear
Resume normal activity.
4. THEN WILL THIS INTRUDER ALERT BE USED
It will be used at the discretion of the administration after a call to the office
regarding the presence of the intruder(s) in the school building. The code will be
used to alert staff that an intruder(s) is in the school building. In most cases, the
administration will follow up on the report without the use of the intruder code.
5. THAT SHOULD TEACHERS DO WHEN THEY HEAR A CODE OVER THE 0! SYSTEM
All teachers should open their classroom door and step into the hallway and allow
students to enter their rooms. If they can safely observe the intruder(s), assess the
situation and report to the office the location of the intruder(s). If classes are not
in session, direct all staff and students into the nearest room. Do not dismiss the
students into the hallways. Should the bells ring to signal the end of class, hold the
students in your classroom until you hear a further announcement asking teachers
to dismiss the students.
